Previously operating out of five separate offices, Supreme Freight – an international shipping handler – called on us to help them create a new HQ which would bring all its employees together on one site.

The central aim of the move was to increase efficiency and productivity while improving staff wellbeing.

AXIS House attended the initial site survey with a full team and delivered a comprehensive presentation portfolio.

With the building requiring a major upgrade, Supreme needed the support of a specialist contractor that could deliver structural works and energy efficiency improvements as well as the fit-out itself.

“The experience of working with AXIS House has been positive from start to finish. I’d 100% recommend them to anyone looking for an office design and fit-out.”

Director, Supreme Freight

The star of the show at Supreme House is the central, contemporary kitchen where colleagues gather to grab a coffee and socialise. As per the brief, this space encourages face-to-face collaboration and reduces the reliance on email for internal communication.

Starting with infrastructure improvements, we stripped out the ceilings, flooring and windows, refurbished the lifts, and fitted a new ventilation system.

Extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades were also completed before installing the new layout which comprised desking areas, a breakout space with kitchen, and glazed meeting rooms.

We also advised Supreme Freight on a range of environmental funding schemes that would make the new HQ more cost-effective to run, while ensuring an A-Grade EPC rating.

Design details

  • To reinforce Supreme Freight’s visual identity, the brand’s core colours of grey, green and orange have been incorporated throughout the design.
  • We introduced a new meeting room to host clients and suppliers, fitted out with a feature wall replicating the style of a shipping container – a playful nod to Supreme’s business operations.
  • The kitchen at the heart of the sociable breakout area makes a bold design statement with its charcoal units, grey gloss tiles, striking orange panels and wood-toned worktops.
  • Glass partitions between the meeting rooms and walkways are adorned with opaque panels depicting the brand’s distinctive circular logo.

Sociable spaces

One of Supreme’s key objectives was to fundamentally change the email-centric working culture by encouraging more in-person interaction. Following a comprehensive consultation with the management team, we created breakout spaces specifically designed with socialising and relaxed collaboration in mind.

Biophilic benefits

To create a connection with the natural world, we applied biophilic design principles to allow plenty of access to fresh air and natural light. As the existing windows didn’t meet the brief, we upgraded the glazing and introduced real planting to aid air purification.

A team working as one

The new HQ, aptly renamed Supreme House, has united the wider team under one roof, leading to a more cohesive work culture and improvements in productivity.

Supreme Freight’s senior management are delighted with the result: “The whole project has felt simple and hassle-free, which is great because it meant we could focus on our day-to-day business.”
