Percussion Play manufactures outdoor musical instruments – “introducing the joy of music to parks and playgrounds across the world”. Because of rapid growth and ambitious expansion plans, a new HQ was urgently required to allow for centralised operations and a streamlined workflow, while reflecting the company’s playful culture.
The team approached AXIS House to take their new warehouse
unit from an empty Cat A shell to a fully operational office, storage and manufacturing facility. Central to the brief were wellbeing and sustainability goals, as well as the desire to create greater cohesion and community across the workforce.

“The designs from AXIS House showed a real understanding of our company culture. Without exception, everyone was on top of the project – we never had to chase anyone.”

We created a joyful aesthetic to reflect the nature of the business – manufacturing musical instruments – as well as the vibrant company ethos.
The cohesive design we implemented across the new office space, showroom, manufacturing floor and kitchen area leans into Percussion Play’s commitment to integrating music with nature.
This holistic theme reflects the company’s brand colours and ethos, while incorporating biophilic features such as a giant wall mural depicting a forested park, an abundance of natural planting, and textured wood finishes.
The welcoming kitchen and dining area serves as a central hub where staff from both the workshop floor and office can come together, creating a greater sense of community and collaboration.

Reflecting the playful nature of Percussion Play’s products, we incorporated musical design elements in the following ways …

In keeping with the unit’s BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, we prioritised sustainability, thermal comfort, natural lighting and good air quality – something that was particularly important in the manufacturing unit.
The fit-out also included a comprehensive M&E package, with the installation of manufacturing floor systems including compressed air and specialised machinery.

Moving from a 19th-Century converted barn to a much larger, contemporary unit has transformed Percussion Play’s operation and the working lives of their staff.
The new HQ houses a series of bespoke workspaces designed specifically around the requirements of the workforce while amplifying the company ethos.

The partnership we built with the team at Percussion Play lies at the heart of this successful Cat B fit-out.
Having gained a deep understanding of the company’s culture, we delivered spaces that not only meet their operational needs but also help foster stronger, more collaborative employee relationships.
Percussion Play’s workplace is now perfectly in tune with their company culture. Get in touch to find out how we could bring harmony to your office.
