Having moved to a hybrid model post-pandemic, Glenigan – a marketing partner to the construction industry – made the decision to halve their office space and move to a smaller unit within the same building. The objective was to create an inspiring, multi-purpose environment to facilitate collaboration and attract top talent while encouraging staff back into the office.

To maximise the reduced footprint, we worked with the client to implement zoned, open-plan spaces designed with functionality in mind. AXIS House was appointed on the strength of both our design proposal and our ability to deliver all aspects of the brief within budget without compromising on quality.

“I’d describe the experience of working with AXIS House as being one of partnership – we felt like we were all part of one team. They provide a very personal service.”

Content Director, Glenigan

In less than 12 weeks, AXIS House created welcoming, zoned spaces designed to encourage staff back into the office, support hybrid working and attract new talent.

Starting from a Cat A fit-out, we installed new lighting, flooring, ceilings and partition walls, which would serve to maximise the potential of the reduced footprint.

As the new offices needed to fulfil multiple purposes, considered space planning was a crucial part of the brief. We created designated zones including a breakout area with bleacher seating for town hall meetings, a contemporary kitchen, relaxed soft seating, meeting rooms and private pods.

Design details

  • Elements of residential design such as comfortable sofas, cushions and throws bring a home-from-home feel to encourage hybrid staff into the office.
  • Generous planting combined with natural wood tones and a palette of teal, grey and beige reflect the natural world, bringing the biophilic benefits of improved mental wellbeing and reduced stress.
  • Bleacher-style seating adds to the informality of the communal space while facilitating whole-team meetings and events.
  • Designated hot-desking zones allow staff to touch down and plug in for focused, solo tasks.
  • A pool table in the breakout area creates a strong focal point and the chance for colleagues to relax on site game during breaks.

A fully connected workplace

We worked collaboratively with Glenigan’s in-house IT team to ensure each zone is fitted with the necessary tech and AV equipment to support hybrid working.

A digital booking system makes it simple for colleagues to reserve specific spaces in the office – and with 100% of the desking space now classed as hot desks

Introducing industrial design elements

Reflecting Glenigan’s activity in the construction sector, our designers
introduced industrial references such as pendant lighting, metallic grid dividers and Crittall-style glazed walls.

A variety of collaborative spaces encourages team cohesion, bringing staff together via banquettes, poseur tables, sofas and conventional meeting rooms.

A haven for hybrid working

Occupying just half the space of their previous premises, the new Glenigan offices are now perfectly suited to the team’s flexible hybrid model.

Our clients are delighted with the results we’ve achieved in creating an attractive and highly functional workplace: “The staff are really impressed with the new space and are already talking about coming into the office more.“
