Blake Envelopes, a fourth-generation firm making envelopes for clients in more than 45 countries, wanted to inject energy and vibrancy into their head office following the adoption of a hybrid working model. The emphasis was on enhanced collaboration and wellbeing, alongside staff retention and the attraction of new talent.

AXIS House was appointed for our creativity, experience and reputation for delivering on time and on budget. As a global operation working to tight schedules, Blake Envelopes needed to be able to take a ‘business as usual’ approach even while the design the fit-out was being carried out.

“Loving the new office environment. Thank you, AXIS House. We are so pleased with the results and couldn’t have done it without you.”

Director, Blake Envelopes

AXIS House transformed the Cat A office with a contemporary, biophilic design in keeping with the brand’s playful identity. The hybrid workforce can now connect and collaborate once again in beautiful, light-filled spaces.

Following in-depth consultation with the client, we agreed upon an aesthetic that would reflect the brand’s intrinsic facets of vibrancy, quality and clear communication. Colourful seating and bold graphics sit alongside calming biophilic elements such as a real tree in the heart of the stunning, open-plan breakout area.

Designated zones allow staff to work according to task and temperament. One section of the workspace is a dedicated focus area, while the other incorporates director offices, personal working booths and a breakout zone to bring the team together and encourage creative thinking.

Design details

  • Angles incorporated into the flooring, glazing and partitions echo the geometry of an envelope and create a distinct visual connection to the company’s core product.
  • The colour palette, which features pops of primary colours against a natural, neutral backdrop, brings vibrancy and energy to the space.
  • Extensive planting throughout the design reflects the natural world while bringing the biophilic benefits of improved mental wellbeing and reduced stress.
  • With sustainability a priority for our client, we re-upholstered and re-used furniture wherever possible, and sourced new fittings from sustainable manufacturers.

Let there be light

To allow as much natural light into the space as possible, we made the most of
the high, vaulted ceiling by installing a full-height window on one of the façades.

Crittall glazing was also incorporated in the windows and meeting room
partitions to add to the airy feel and contribute to the geometric aesthetic.

An injection of colour and energy

A key part of the brief was to inject energy back into the workplace to help retain
existing staff and attract new talent.
An example of this was the feature wall we created in one of the meeting rooms
which comprises different coloured Blake Envelopes arranged in block
formations to create a striking, graphic statement.

Uplifting spaces to support collaboration and hybrid working

Executed within a tight time frame of just six weeks, AXIS House delivered a visually engaging, on-brand office environment suited to the needs of hybrid working.

The transformation has brought a fresh energy to the workforce, with staff reporting that they feel enthused about their roles and now love coming into the new office.
