Brief

Since it opened its doors to students in 1965, AECC University College has been a leading institute in musculoskeletal healthcare; providing the world with professionals who are enthusiastic, equipped and ready to make a difference.

Axis House worked with AECC University College to design and create a totally refurbished learning environment.

Solution

The university believes in putting their students at the centre of everything they do. In doing so they wanted to develop the facilities that meets the learning needs of the students.

With this in mind, Axis House created an exciting, dynamic learning environment, including open plan canteen, breakout area, agile study space, modern Student Union and now the library.

Phase 1 of the library development project saw a refurbishment of the mezzanine floor, which provided a much brighter study area with the all-important study pods; enabling students to work collaboratively.

Research carried out by the staff at AECC found that the use of this study space rose by over 33% following refurbishment.

Phase two of the development was tackling the downstairs. Axis House delivered a creative design that utilised the space better. The computers were relocated along the back wall, resulting in the number of computers increasing from 6 to 13.

AECC have a clear vision of what success looks like for their learners, getting both the phases of refurbishment right was a crucial.

This refurbishment of both these spaces now allows students to be more creative and learn through agile working. Check out the video testimonial to see the solution we delivered.

“We feel as though we work alongside Axis House as partners….an excellent experience all round. I would have no hesitation at all in recommending them for future work here or elsewhere to colleagues in other institutions.”
