As a leading office design and fit-out company with a sister brand manufacturing flooring products, we were ready to streamline our operation and accelerate business growth by relocating to new premises. The pressure was on to create an impressive shopfront that would bring our showroom, warehouse and office areas all under one roof.

At the heart of the design for the new AxisHouse HQ was an expansive, glazed atrium flooded with light and punctuated with generous planting. Natural materials and vibrant textures create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere for welcoming clients, conducting focused work, or holding impromptu meetings.

“This fit-out has truly been transformative. By motivating our biggest asset – our employees – we have seen exceptional performance and growth opportunities.”

Richard Farrant
Managing Director, AXIS House

The new HQ creates an impressive showroom experience for visiting clients while providing staff with a motivational place to work promoting collaboration and wellbeing.

We stripped the run-down industrial unit back to its bare bones, ready to create a unique, contemporary space designed to meet our specific criteria. Distinct zones demarcate our key areas of activity: a manufacturing plant, a showroom and design section, office areas, and a large breakout space with a kitchen.

The full range of workstations we incorporated into the fit-out allow our staff to maximise their potential while showcasing different solutions to our clients. These include height-adjustable desks, collaborative work pods, phone booths, plug-and-play stations and soft seating areas.

Design details

  • Referencing biophilic design principles, the double-height atrium features a central tree surrounded by sculptural, wood-toned seating.
  • The muted colour palette with natural, sustainable materials creates a calming environment to aid focus and enhance wellbeing.
  • Making a nod to the building’s former life as an industrial unit, design details include exposed ducting and utilitarian lighting.
  • The sweeping, open-riser staircase makes a bold style statement while linking the ground floor to the mezzanine office area.
  • A wide variety of lighting types have been incorporated from functional task lighting and re-purposed high bay lighting to contemporary luminaires and stunning feature lighting in biomorphic form.
  • A full-height, acoustically treated stud wall minimises the transfer of noise from the manufacturing plant to the office areas, while glazed meeting room partitions also contribute to acoustic control while allowing the flow of natural light.

Embedded tech to drive efficiencies

To support hybrid working, we invested in a high-specification technology ecosystem covering video conferencing, high-speed internet and cloud computing.

Hot-desking allows staff to switch up their work environment as needed, enabling them to remain efficient and productive. Each employee has their own locker with integrated USB charging and hot box storage.

A sustainable approach to design

In terms of sustainability, we scored more than 70% for this fit-out across 57 different measures covering energy and CO2, materials, waste, water, pollution and wellbeing. The result is a coveted SKA Gold rating.

Biophilic features integrated into the design include extensive planting and strategically positioned skylights to maximise the flow of natural light.

A stunning showcase for workplace design

The meticulously planned office space prioritises employee engagement, productivity and wellbeing while providing a ‘shoppable’ experience for visiting clients.

Staff reported enhanced creativity and focus and even a reduction in the frequency of migraines. “The whole space feels much more social and collaborative. It’s such an impressive place to work."
